Fifth Avenue

With Alviero Martini 1C in New York

The most famous street in New York is Fifth Avenue. It is the great luxury shopping street, where the boutique windows sparkle and where, of course, the prices are adequate to the standard of contemporary luxury. There is, however, a possibility to wear a Fifth Avenue jewel without spending too much. The miracle happens if you wear the bijoux collection that has the same name, that is Fifth Avenue, signed Alviero Martini First Class. The collection is part of a series of fashion bijoux lines dedicated to famous locations around the world. It is not strange: years ago the Italian brand became famous for its bags with geographical maps. And a few months ago it has expanded its offer to the world of bijoux.

Fifth Avenue jewelry includes long chains with pendants, bracelets and bangles, rings and earrings of a certain size. They are all made of silver and then plated in yellow gold, with the addition of cubic ziconia crystals. Inside the bijoux there is the 1C monogram of the house.

At the Met in New York the history of jewels

An exhibition at the Met in New York tells the history and art of jewelry ♦ ︎

Are you planning a trip to New York or, if you are lucky, live in the most famous city in America? Do you love jewels? Then mark your date on your calendar: November 12, 2018. It is the day when a major exhibition on jewelry is inaugurated. History, meaning, styles: the exhibition, entitled Jewelry: The Body Transformed, is organized at the Met and brings together about 230 objects of all kinds. Ethnic, fashionable, luxurious created between 2600 BC and today: earrings, brooches, belts, necklaces, rings, but also sculptures, paintings, prints and photographs. The exhibition is scheduled until 12 November 2019. The jewel, in fact, seems to be the common denominator of all cultures and of any people. From those who in ancient Egypt served to accompany a powerful man in the hereafter, to those who have become status symbols, to jewels that are combined with a spiritual meaning. For those who like to know better what they wear, the exhibition is an interesting opportunity. Margherita Donato

Harry Winston, hymn to New York

///

The city of New York turns into a sparkling collection of other jewelry with Harry Winston ♦ ︎

New York, New York: in addition to being the title of the famous song, the American city was the subject of films, novels and works of art. And now also a collection of fine jewelry. New York is the protagonist of the 32-piece collection signed by Harry Winston, one of the jewelers that most identifies with the city.

The jewels of the New York collection are inspired by architecture, but also by sounds and panoramas of the city.

But be careful: do not think about finding jewels with icons that are so popular with tourists, like the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building. New York is seen, instead, through situations and details related to the history or taste of the founder of the Maison: for example, the eagles of cast iron that in the early twentieth century were used as a frieze for street lamps are transformed into jewels of the Eagle line, with shape of wings made up of diamonds. Throughout the collection there are eight different lines of jewels.

City Lights is obviously inspired by the bright lights of Broadway with jewels that use precious stones: emeralds, rubies, sapphires.

Brownstone alludes to the sandstone used in the Upper West Side, the neighborhood where Winston was born, and in this case the jewels have angular baguette diamonds arranged in a sparkling pendant necklace and chandelier pendent earrings. The turquoise and sapphire blue sugar pan version of each (also available in blue and sapphire yellow) winks at the Art Deco architecture found elsewhere in the city. Or the 718 line, which is the street number of Fifth Avenue where the Harry Winston flagship store is located. In short, it is a way to visit the city certainly fascinating. Giulia Netrese

Tiffany closed for renovation

Tiffany store closes. But do not worry: the Fifth Avenue shop of the world’s most famous brand pauses to restructure ♦ ︎

The most famous jewelry store in the world is located in New York: it is Tiffany. In addition to being the flagship store of the largest group of jewelry, the large Tiffany boutique is also a myth. Much of the credit goes to a lucky combination that brought Tiffany into the title of one of the most famous films. The jewelry on Fifth Avenue is the one admired by Audrey Hepburn, with a little black dress by Givenchy, in the film edition of the novel by Truman Capote, Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
If you have passed the shop windows between 57th Street and Fifth Avenue in New Yoirk, or you have planned to go there, know that the shop closes its doors. It is not, however, a definitive closure, but only a rather long pause, three years, in view of a radical restructuring.

Renovation works will start in 2019 and end at the end of 2021.

The cost of the operation was calculated at 250 million dollars. A mountain of money, which will change the face of the store opened in 1940. The new CEO, the Italian Alessandro Bogliolo, decided the operation. It was not by chance that the delicate task of renewing the company was entrusted to him. And sales figures seem to agree with him. The Fifth Avenue shop, explained Bogliolo, has always been synonymous with innovation: for example, it was one of the first in the world with air conditioning.
That Tiffany store was inaugurated on October 21, 1940, at the foot of a granite and limestone building, with Art Deco influences and steel doors. It is guarded by a bronze statue about 3 meters high that depicts Atlas, mythological giant who in this case carries a watch on his shoulders instead of the world. It was also the first public clock in New York. Now it closes. And who wants to buy Tiffany jewels? Jewelery, pottery and silver from Tiffany will move during the works in the adjacent premises of the former Niketown.
