Jewelry made with wood, but of luxury. Indeed, of design. The small and refined Bolognese maison Qayten has created the TT collection with a choice that is not usual in the world of jewelry. The pieces in the collection, in fact, are made with what is the oldest material used by man: wood. But this is not a random choice. The wood, dark ebony and very solid, resistant and with veins of warm shades, is accompanied by gold and diamond inserts. It is a return to the origins of civilization: the first jewels worn by women, thousands of years ago, were made of wood.

But it is also a choice that alludes to nature, even if the Maison makes it clear that the ebony used has an ethical origin. The jewels feature an elaborate design, with bracelets and necklaces made up of a puzzle of elements with sinuous, soft shapes, which make the volumes of the jewel seem in motion. The collection consists of a bracelet, two necklaces, two pairs of earrings and a ring.

Touch wood, in many countries has a talismanic meaning. It is an action, that is to keep the bad luck away. But touching wood can also mean attachment to an object, perhaps a jewel. This is what the British designer Annoushka Ducas has also thought. She joined the two concepts and launched his latest collection, Touch Wood, inspired by her childhood memories in Russia. The jewels have domes with onion shape as those of the Kremlin churches, along with a noble and resistant wood, the ebony, like the ring that was worn by the designer’s mother. Together with domes, which become pendants, rings or earrings, gold tassels also appear, and a cross but in a Christian-orthodox version, with three bars horizontally. Ebony is sometimes visible, for example as an onion-shaped pendant, while sometimes wood, hand-worked, is hidden inside the jewel but always in contact with the skin: it is its function catch lucky. Oromalia, incantesimo a Firenze

Oromalia name is pronounced, in Italian language, with the accent on the letter ‘i’. The name means magic gold, or gold enchantment, as you like. The magician is Salvatore Barberi, one of the Italian goldsmiths who flew to Las Vegas for the Jck Show. It is a typical representative of Made in Italy of the jewels. Oromalia is a family company: Salvatore works with it his wife Teresa and the daughter Sandra. The design is based rather on large pieces, but not heavy, thanks to the careful work of the material. But, in addition to the yellow metal, the Florentine company has decided to innovate with the use of wood. Ebony is used along with gold as if it were a precious stone: polished properly, it turns into a chain of rings with to small diamonds. It is not the only non-metallic element. In addition to wood Oromalia also uses the leather. But gold remains the passion number one.
