A banker with a passion for jewels. Andrew Glassford goes to the office each morning, where he occupies a prominent position: he is vice president and risk manager for small business credit at Bank of America, the banking giant of the United States. But three years ago he discovered that money isn’t everything. There is also a passion for jewelry: for years, he says, he has cut out photos of rings, bracelets and necklaces from newspapers, fascinated by design. And so, after attending the École Van Cleef & Arpels in Paris and learning about the opportunities and pitfalls of gems at Gia, she founded her Maison in Dallas, Texas. An unusual profile, but Glassford with his second job was able to convince everyone.

In addition to his passion for jewelry and his poodle named Mack II, Andrew loves orchids and is an enthusiast of the Asian world, after a recent trip to China and Japan. But for his jewels he seems to have a strong predilection for art deco, with precise lines, safe geometries, enamel that separates gold and precious stones. Who would have thought that a banker could have such a profound aesthetic sensibility?

The jewels of Ashley Pittman: natural materials, but also an interesting result ♦ ︎
Becoming a good designer is difficult. Making interesting jewelry is even more difficult. But even more complicated is designing nice jewels, well done and, moreover, eco-friendly, that is, friends of the environment. It is the business of Ashley Pittman, an American from Dallas, who uses materials with cow’s horn, bronze gems and fair trade products. To begin with, he manufactures his jewels in Kenya and 10% of the profits is donated to local schools. Moreover, in the African country it gives work to 75 artisans, to fair wages. That of Ashley Pittman is a vocation: in 2006 she volunteered for the Clinton Foundation to fight HIV-AIDS in Rwanda. He then decided to use the jurisprudence skills acquired at the university and in the financial sector to build his sustainable business.
But, alongside these positive intentions, there is his work as a designer. Each piece is entirely handmade using horn, semiprecious gems, bronze and indigenous materials from East Africa. The horn comes from Ankle’s Kenyan cows, a source of food for the local community and villages. If you’re one of the 500 million fans of Jackie Collins, you must know that Bonhams is organizing an auction in which sells the jewels of the writer who died in 2015. The auction is scheduled on 16 and 17 May 2017 in Los Angeles. For sale there are not only the jewelry that belonged to the best sellers writer, but also objects and works of art, books and her Jaguar.

Everything seems to come from one of the episodes of Dallas or Beautiful series. Suffice it to say that the house of Jackie Collins is set around a large swimming pool inspired by the iconic painting by David Hockney, A Bigger Splash. And, not surprisingly, the writer was the sister of one of the stars of Dallas, Joan Collins.
