Often the chains have a small tag engraved with a name, usually that of the person wearing the jewel. In other cases, instead, a date is engraved, for example, that of birth. How to choose a chain

Chains are not all the same. And not just because of their size or the style with which the different rings are made. Before buying a chain, pay attention to the quality of the jewel. The shirt must be soft, pleasant to wear. It must be as flexible as possible, without joints that get stuck if they need to be bent. Above all, a chain must not have protruding points that can attach to your dress (or perhaps to that of others). Some chains are designed to be combined with pendants: an idea that must also be comfortable once the bracelet or necklace is worn.

How to clean a chain?

Simple: like all the other jewels, that is with water, a couple of drops of liquid soap and a soft bristle toothbrush. Leave to soak in a bowl for about ten minutes and then rub with the toothbrush, then rinse. Be careful, however, that the chain is not plated or gilded with a galvanic bath. In this case there is a risk of damaging the surface: better to rinse the jewel without the risk of scratching it.

But it is a type of jewel that Salima Thakker, with over 20 years of experience in the world of high jewelery and founder-designer of Elementals, has extensively remodeled. Starting from the material with which they are made: Galuchat leather together with 18-karat white, yellow or pink, or white gold-plated sterling silver, rose gold-plated copper, yellow gold-plated brass, but also stones such as agate. All combined through a 3D printing process.

Bracelets and necklaces are fully customizable. You can choose between different materials and combine the chain. Galuchat leather, or stingray, is a material that uses fish scales and derives from the surname of the French craftsman Jean-Claudio Galuchat. He was the master craftsman of King Louis XV, the first in Europe to develop the process for obtaining this type of leather (18th century). If there is one thing that Fawaz Gruosi does not lack, it is fantasy. In his new Maison, created in his image and likeness, the jeweler unleashes his proven experience, together with the usual gift of creativity. The Fantasy line was born on this basis, a collection inspired by the eternal shape of the chain. It takes imagination, in fact, to propose chains that are different from those commonly found on the market, but also from those that offer other brands devoted to design. Mission accomplished.

Two sautoirs feature flat, elongated and organically shaped oval rings in pink, gold and ivory ceramic, or white, gold and black ceramic. For some models, diamonds are added, with smaller tonneau-shaped links, that is, more rounded. The gems are arranged in an apparently random way, but in reality with a perfect balance. The jewelry clasp was specially developed in Fawaz Gruosi’s atelier in Geneva so that it can be seamlessly integrated into the design.

The collection also includes bracelets, with the same style and the same materials: they are available in pink gold and ivory ceramic, or in white gold and black ceramic, with each link made unique by the original par hazard diamond setting. Fantasy earrings are composed of a sequence of rings in pink or white gold joined by small tonneau-shaped links, ending with a drop of ivory or black ceramic. Each earring is individually signed with a letter F on the back, which also indicates that the earring must be worn on the right lobe, while the letter G indicates the left. Finally, there is no shortage of rings in the Fantasy collection. In this case the chain has rounded links to follow the shape of the finger and adapt better.

Often it is the smallest jewels that pose the greatest challenges, and this ring is one example. It is not easy to mix ceramic and gold, but once again my skilled goldsmiths have given body to my Fantasy.

The chains of the Hyper collection are made of metal with the Ip gold technique. The abbreviation Ip stands for Ion plating, a system used to form a film on the metal, obtained through the physical deposition of vapor. If you are curious, know that the Ip technique consists in bombarding the surface to be treated with a flow of ionized particles. The surface is immersed in an inert gas (often argon), together with the covering materials. The La Gioia di Pomellato collection, now in its second edition (the first was presented in 2020), aims to be above all a joy for those who receive it as a gift. But that’s not all: the collection is the second debut of the Italian Maison, which is part of the Kering group, in the world of high jewelery. The creative director, Vincenzo Castaldo, however, avoided a clean slate approach, that is, starting from scratch: La Gioia (meaning the joy in Italian) is a journey through the history of the brand, he explained. Instead, he has chosen a continuity with Pomellato’s tradition, with the addition of those pluses that make the collection stand on the podium of high jewelery.

For example, with the use of yellow and pink gold chains, which were almost a symbol of the eighties and nineties. In this case, however, the chains are enriched with tanzanites, turquoise or diamonds, as well as being reinterpreted with different motifs. This is the case, for example, of the Haiku Turquoise T-Chain necklace, a unique piece in 18-karat yellow and pink gold with a pavé of diamonds, in the shape of ancient Japanese coins, one of which is carved in turquoise and an elaborate T-clasp. .

For Pomellato too, the yellow of gold is tinged with green: the collection involves the use of exclusively responsible gold, 100% locally produced, and the reuse of existing jewels. All entirely produced in Italy in the Maison’s goldsmith workshop.
