It is not true that there is no longer a sultan in Turkey. There are millions and several hundred thousand live in Istanbul: they are cats, a feline population that lives among the streets and historic buildings of the Ottoman city. And it is no coincidence that cats are among the sources of inspiration for Begüm Kiroglu, designer of the Begüm Khan brand. The founder of the brand has a special story: she studied at the Bocconi University in Milan before moving to Shanghai, where she completed a master’s degree in Chinese culture and art. A passion for creativity led Begüm to the historic Silk Road in Shanghai, where she completed a master’s degree in Chinese art and culture.
It was the cultural history of China that inspired the birth of the Begüm Khan brand. But her earrings encrusted with gems or crystal reveal the influence of the Ottoman tradition. The jewels are in simple gold-plated bronze, with root gems, i.e. non-transparent and therefore cheaper, but which retain color and depth. Alongside the jewels for women, Begüm Khan also offers a wide range of jewels for men, which we wrote about here.
Pandora launches jewelry for cats and dogs
Perhaps it is no coincidence that the launch of the first collection of dog jewelry takes place close to World Dog Day, August 26. Pandora has crossed the barrier that divides humans and animals to present the first collection of accessories dedicated to four-legged companions, pets. Not to mention that, in fact, nothing prohibits using the heart-shaped pendant with the sign of a paw engraved even for a cat (for a goldfish, no, it’s too complicated).
Pandora has therefore made the accessories with materials such as a leather fabric of vegetable origin for the collar, and pendants in light stainless steel, suitable for both dogs and cats. The tags are in the shape of a bone, heart and paw and can be personalized with an engraving. Alongside the dog and cat medals, Pandora also offers jewels for two-legged owners, such as bracelets in rose gold plated silver and cubic zirconia with paw-shaped charms, or heart-shaped with the inscription Best Friend or, again, with the silhouette of a cat. Meow.
Jewels dedicated to the Cat’s Day, which is February 17th. For all tastes ♦ ︎
Maybe you do not know, but there’s a Day in February which, for many, is even more important than Valentine’s Day. It is the National Day of the Cat. The day dedicated to the most beloved feline occurs on 17 February. The idea is quite recent: it was born in 1990 thanks to the gattofila journalist Claudia Angeletti through the readers of the Italy magazine Tuttogatto. In the end the proposal by the reader Oriella Del Col was the winner.
The reason for the choice was indicated in the fact that February is the month of the zodiacal sign of Aquarius, ie free spirits, like cats. Furthermore, in the past, February it was defined as “the month of cats and witches”. Regarding the number, 17 in the tradition of some countries, is considered an unfortunate number, an undeserved reputation that in the past was reserved for the cat. And here, then, a selection of jewelry and bijoux gattofili, starting from the earrings of the collection The Circle of Lebole Jewels. But from Bliss to Van Cleef & Arpels the jewels that have the cat as protagonist are really many. Lavinia Andorno
