The pop of Cada

Among pop culture and art: the jewels of Cada, Maison in Munich ♦ ︎

Creativity, Art, Design, Anarchy. The initials of these four words form the acronym Cada, Maison in Munich founded by Annette Kopp, a goldsmith expert, and by Herbert Kopp, with a career as a painter. The couple founded the jewelry store in 1986 and has become a meeting point for designers and creatives from the German city. Herbert Kopp used his artistic ability to conceive jewels that reflect the philosophy of the eighties and nineties, for example with the Love collection.

Thirty years later, Herbert continues to design jewelry in the studio in central Munich. They are jewels that bring together elements of pop culture or are simply variants of classical forms. Not only that: for design enthusiasts the Maison has also introduced jewelry designed by artists such as Aaron Curry, Andy Hope and Jonathan Meese.

Rainbow jewelry for new year

A rainbow jewel with all colors: it brings joy and is also a message of hope for the next 12 months.

Forget the simple touch of color: rainbow jewelery is in fashion, even in high jewelery. Rainbow jewels can be composed of precious stones, such as sapphires, emeralds and rubies, but more easily with semi-precious gems, such as citrines, amethysts, rhodolites, red garnets, blue topazes, peridots, iolites … For Arlène Bonnant of Caspita, the high jewelery maison of Geneva, the rainbow is above all oriental exoticism or esotericism with the Chakra collection composed of colorless diamonds and colored enamels.

The rainbow is also the worldwide symbol of the LGBT community, but not only. The colors of the rainbow are part of popular legends and traditions from all over the world. For example, the rainbow even appears in the Bible: according to the holy book, after the great flood, God sent a rainbow to Noah to promise that he would never again flood the earth. The rainbow is also present in a concept of Tibetan Buddhism, while in Indian mythology it is the arch of Indra, the god of lightning and thunder, and in Greek mythology, it was considered an atmospheric phenomenon linked to the deities, a path between earth and paradise.

In Chinese mythology the rainbow was a crack in the sky closed by the goddess Nüwa with stones of seven different colors and in the ancient legends of the European countries of the deep north a rainbow called Bifrǫst Bridge which connects the kingdoms of Ásgarðr and Miðgarðr, abodes of the deities and of humans. Finally, how can we forget that in Irish mythology, but also in Sardinia, tradition has it that at the end of a rainbow there is a pot of gold coins. Or, who knows, a rainbow jewel.

In jewelry, however, rainbow jewels are typically rings, necklaces, bracelets or earrings that are preferably worn during the day. In addition, jewels with all shades of the iris stand out better with dresses of a single color, while on patterned fabrics, for example with flowers, they risk being confused with the design of the dress. Finally, the rainbow jewels can be worn indifferently on a light or dark skin of the face or hands.

The art of Cada

/

Artworks such as jewelry. Indeed, jewels created for Cada by three artists: Aaron Curry, Jonathan Meese and Andy Hope 1930. The experiment continues.
What looked like only a experiment, goes on. Contemporary art and jewelry to a large scale have married up with Cada, German brand that looks to the imagination and the creative to offer something new. Indeed, compared to the initial launch, few years ago, the collection which includes three lines designed by contemporary artists, Aaron Curry, Jonathan Meese and Andy Hope 1930, continues and grows. The idea is to Herbert Kopp, founder of Cada, who is a friend of the three.

In short, the imagination goes from art galleries to the toes of the wearer of the Curry rings, or neck of those who adopt the Meese chains. The three artists are not the first to grapple with the jewelry: masters such as Alexander Calder, Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso have placed at the service of earrings or bracelets their creativity. The pieces of the three collections, one for each artist, however, are considered works of art and their price goes accordingly. Gold and precious stones, in fact, but able to arouse amazement that one feels in front of a work of art. This, at least, is the aim of Cada. They succeeded? Judge for yourself. Federico Graglia
