Bees and butterflies for the first real Rosato

It melts, the rivers swell, the nocturnal frosts are gone: it’s spring. In this season the plants bloom and the cycle of life resumes, with the insects having the task of carrying the pollen from one stem to another. Poetry of nature that inspired the Rosato brand, from the Bros Manifatture group. Delicate insects are the protagonists of the jewelry line inspired by the awakening of nature, with bees and butterflies landing on bracelets, rings and earrings.

A story that began in the 1800s, when Natale Staurino opened his first workshop and started making jewelry. Art continued with his nephew Pietro. Jennifer Dawes, queen in the animal Kingdom

The world of jewelry has set out on the green road, at least in words. But there are those who have encouraged environmental sustainability for years, to the point of making it a distinctive feature. This is the case of Jennifer Dawes, a designer who works in Sonoma County, California. Jennifer has always been a supporter of nature and ecological balance. A concept that she reiterates now with the Kingdom collection. The kingdom you allude to is that of animals, from the butterfly brooch made with watermelon tourmaline to compose the wings, to bees with rutilated quartz bodies.

The butterfly, among other things, has a symbolic meaning because a species has been included among the endangered species in the California area, news that upset the designer, so much so that it took action to protect the insect. Another feature that concerns the collection is the presence of pieces with moving parts. The butterfly, for example, can move its wings. They are almost all unique pieces, except for the dragonfly and the lucky eye, which can be produced in different copies.

Buccellati’s butterflies

x

Buccellati offers its butterfly-shaped brooches dedicated to women.

According to the scientific definition, the butterfly is an insect that belongs to the order of Lepidoptera. Not a very romantic definition. Yet butterflies have always played a special role for poets and painters, but also for jewelers, who consider these little birds as a source of inspiration. And in view of Women’s Day, a day that in many countries is dedicated to the world of women (8 March), Buccellati offers its butterfly-shaped brooches. They are not generic jewels with the shape of the colored moth. Some of these butterfly brooches were made with certain varieties of the species in mind.

There is, for example, the monarch butterfly, one of the most widespread species, which is proposed with its scientific name, that is, Danaus brooch. It is made of yellow gold, which contrasts with the white color of the central baroque pearl and is embellished with white diamonds. Or the Polissena brooch, a butterfly that to discourage predators dresses in dazzling colors: white, yellow and pink of gold, the red of the four oval-cut rubies, the glitter of the yellow diamonds that come from the wings, while the central baroque pearl forms its body.

A philosophical butterfly for Lebole Gioielli

/

The word Cho or Chou (蝶 紋) in both Chinese and Japanese indicates more or less the silhouette of the butterfly. And since the world of the fascinating East is the source of inspiration for Lebole Gioielli, here is a collection that takes up the shape of the butterfly. The Cho collection consists of asymmetrical earrings representing a girl-butterfly on one lobe and a butterfly seen in profile on the other.

It’s not all here: the butterfly, explains Barbara Lebole, represents the protagonist of an ancient oriental tale that teaches something interesting about the meaning of life. According to the legend to which the Maison refers, a man was widowed and had to take care of his two daughters. The girls, very curious and intelligent, continually asked questions to the father who was not always sure of giving the right answer. So the man decided to send them to live by the sage, in order to be sure that they were well educated.

To measure man’s wisdom, the girls decided to trap him by asking him a question he would not have been able to answer. The older sister went out into the open and after catching a butterfly she hid it in her apron. They decided to ask the sage if the butterfly in their hands was alive or dead and to act accordingly on the response. If the sage said she was alive, they would have killed her. If, however, she said she was dead, they would fly her away. With this trick, the essay’s answer would still have been incorrect. But the wise answered simply: it depends on you, since the butterfly is in your hands.

The butterfly, according to Lebole, represents life in our hands of ourselves. Who would have thought that a pair of earrings could give a philosophy lesson?

The colorful Sutra butterflies

Butterflies with diamonds and colored stones by Sutra, symbol, memory, nature ♦ ︎

According to historians, the first butterflies depicted by man date back to the frescoes of 3,500 years ago in ancient Egypt. In short, butterflies have become a subject for art since the human race began its journey. A sign that colorful-winged insects have never lost their charm. So much so that, besides becoming subjects for paintings and sculptures, they were often transformed into jewels. Necklaces, earrings, pendants and rings in the shape of a butterfly, sooner or later, have attracted the attention of all the great Maison of jewelry.

Sutra proposes this classic theme with the Butterfly collection.

As is the style of the jewelery brand founded by Arpita and Divyanshu Navlakha, the Sutra butterfly rivals the most colorful butterflies. Butterflies are also a memory of Arpita’s youth in Mumbai. Diamonds are set together with emeralds, sapphires, aquamarines or tourmalines in a light design like the wings of real butterflies. In some cases, as in earrings, butterflies are divided into two: each wing on one ear. Or both wings are placed on a frame of white or pink gold.

Damiani’s butterflies

//

The butterflies € 1 million price signed by Damiani fly to the Venice Film Festival ♦ ︎

The Venice Film Festival is a stage for actors and actresses. And there is a way of saying that defines the protagonists of the entertainment world as “stage animals”. However, they are not the only animals to animate the days of the edition of the Venice Film Festival in Venice number 75. In fact, there are also the animals-jewel of Damiani, which is partner of the Fondazione ente dello spettacolo, an association promotes the enhancement of film culture in Italy. In fact, the Maison of hine jewelry has always had a link with the cinema, with ambassadors like Sharon Stone, Tilda Swinton, Jennifer Aniston, Gwyneth Paltrow, Brad Pitt, without forgetting the very Italian Isabella Rossellini and Sophia Loren. And Damiani jewels have also appeared in famous films, such as Angels and Demons, A Bigger Splash, The Blind Side.

Damiani has therefore decided to present at the Mostra del Cinema the creations of the Animalia collection:

spiders, geckos, owls, monkeys, parrots, dragonflies in the high jewelery version. In particular, the novelties are made up of three new butterfly rings. The first ring is made of white gold and features an oval fancy purplish pink of 2.23 carats, refined by the intensity of the sapphires that design the lightness of the wings in the different shades of blue. In the second one a round-cornered rectangual fancy blue of 2.52 carats is mounted on rose gold and complemented by white and brown diamonds, in a harmonious alternation that evokes the beauty of a butterfly in flight. In the third proposal, a 3.13 carat yellowish green cushion fancy is combined with white and yellow diamonds, in which the flashes of light are enhanced by the yellow gold. An ingenious mechanism reproduces the wingspan of the butterfly and the movement of the beating of wings. By bending the finger, the pin comes alive, creating a surprising effect. Price: over 1 million euros.

Mariah Carey between heart and butterfly

News for lovers of gossip & jewelry: Mariah Carey was spotted in the middle of a party wearing a necklace from half a million dollars. The pendant with a fancy yellow diamond, is the gift of Australian billionaire James Packer, her boyfriend. The singer, 45, wore the jewel at the Mirage in Las Vegas, Saturday, July 25. Not only that: in addition to the necklace with large stone cut in the shape of heart, the American star has worn her inseparable ring shaped like a butterfly. And it is no coincidence, since the ring-shaped butterfly seems an every season accessory: the singer and producer US wearing it, in fact, in many different occasions. For the uninitiated, it is a ring signed Van Cleef & Arpels Collection Envol, white gold and 131 diamonds. The cost is about $ 31,000. G.N.

On the wings of Casato

Casato continues to focus on white, with colorless diamonds and champagne set on white and rose gold, and on the butterfly subject, which in the new Free me collection evolves and transform itself. Long wings, the sign of the metamorphosis carried out, designed to lie slightly on the body and be really wearable with its soft shapes, that adds depth to the jewel. Everything is studied down to the last detail. For example, diamonds are on the stalk of the ring and or on the back of the butterflies necklace to not lose any precious detail if they twist. Even the Hold Me Tight collection is played on volumes, stretch mesh, and contrasts of white gold rhodium and white diamonds for a modern classic. Contemporary is the word for Rio, horizontal double or triple ring with amethyst, prasiolite and smoky quartz. M.d.B.
