But since 1970 the matriarch, Fádua Hueb, had begun selling jewels to his friends, with a success that gave life to the business.

Given also that the designer studied sculpture at the Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado in his hometown, it’s simplest to say that its jewels are extremely three-dimensional shapes. Never flat shapes, despite the search for essential forms. In New York, the enterprising young Brazilian has also studied at the Gemological Institute of America then moved to London to graduate from Central Saint Martins. In short, she pocketed the better curriculum for a jeweler. The result, her jewels, are appreciated by a large number of celebrity. You see why in these pictures: earcuff large diamond-studded rings that twist as bent by the wind, earrings from the elusive form of small cones. To mark as a favorite.

Thais Bernardes, the Brazil studied Italy

Thais Bernardes, the jewels of Brazil that have a little bit of Italy ♦ ︎

There are many Brazilian citizens of Italian origin. But there are also designers who simply take an example from Italians, those who work in jewelry. This is the case of Thais Bernardes, who says: “I learned from the Italians to value details and invest in quality. My jewels follow a contemporary style for women who want, at the same time, to dictate fashion with elegance and lightness “.

The founder of the brand that has her name, among other things, was born and grew up in Minas Gerais, the place that is the largest producer of natural gemstones among the Brazilian states.

And growing in contact with the stones for jewelry gave her a decisive imprinting. Although she started her career as a model. Then, however, she studied gemology and jewelry design, with a specialization in Fashion Brand Management in Milan. Finally, in 2015 she founded the brand Thais Bernardes, now also at VicenzaOro September. Her jewels are all made of silver, gold and precious and semi-precious stones, “where the Italian workforce combined with the Brazilian tradition creates inimitable objects”.

A globetrotter with a passion for art, cinema and fashion. But also for her gems, which she has decided to make the absolute protagonists of her activity: Denise Cassou, a Brazilian from Sao Paulo, has decided that once she has reached maturity, she wanted a change. After traveling much of the world and graduating in photography and cinema, she launched herself into the world of high quality jewelery with the brand of the same name. For many years she designed and made her own jewelery and that of her daughters and her close friends before creating her own Maison, which she launched in 2022.

But without forgetting her traveler roots: her first collection of jewels created using stones extracted during her travels is inspired by the world of Magna Graecia. As often happens in Brazil, a country rich in stone mines for jewelry, Denise Cassou’s earrings and rings are focused on gems. In particular, the opals and tourmalines of different colors, starting with the mesmerizing Paraiba, become the protagonists. But there are also large emeralds, sunstones, tanzanites and diamonds.

The magical waters of Brazil with Brumani

According to an indigenous legend of the Tupi-Guarani tribes, a vast area of Brazil, Yara is the name of a mermaid who lives in the waters of the Amazon River. And the Brazilian Maison Brumani was inspired by this myth for the Yara collection, which is also a word that in the language of the local populations means the beauty of the waters. Actually, the Amazon River is not famous for its transparency. But the concept of beauty of the waters has been interpreted by Brumani with a collection that aims to evoke pristine waves.

The jewels of the collection are made of white gold and with a wide range of topaz, with shades ranging from intense blue to white, passing through azure. A tonality of colors that evokes pristine springs and, perhaps, more oceanic beaches than the great river that crosses the South American continent. The whole, however, has its own pleasant effect. The collection includes a large number of rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces, all with the same shade of blue and blue.

Shells and diamonds, the Aron & Hirsch formula

From Brazil to the tribes living along the Omo Valley, southern Ethiopia: the bond that brought Aron & Hirsch to Africa is unusual, where she found inspiration for their jewelry worn by women who live that remote region. The Brazilian brand, based in Sao Paulo and Rio De Janeiro, has developed jewels that focus on the contrast of precious stones, such as emeralds, diamonds, topazes, coral, turquoise, peridot, jade, and shells. In short, a contamination between luxury and ethnic traditions.

The law of colors by Larissa Moraes

Vincent Van Gogh is famous for his paintings, which have as their main subject the countryside around Arles, in Provence. But now the colors of her palette have been reborn in Brazil thanks to Larissa Moraes and her jewels. It is no coincidence that the designer from Brasilia, who gave her name to her Maison, was born into a family of artists. One of her collections is, in fact, dedicated to the Dutch painter in love with the sunny landscapes of southern France.

The precious stones overlap creating a 3D effect, reflecting the idea of sunflowers and their numerous layers, to emulate the painting. A matte finish with lines represents the leaves while a glossy finish is used to represent the branches.

South American. But, in the end, she won the law of her passion: she started designing full time in late 2018 and in March 2020 Larissa won gold in the Design Award and Competition and later in the same year she won MJSA Vision Awards First and Second Place in the Professional Excellence, in the Business category and honorable mention.

The architectures of Gaudì in the collection of Carla Amorim

Carla Amorim is a Brazilian designer who follows a path a little different from that of her colleagues. Perhaps she too depends on her religious faith, which she openly manifests and which has inspired several jewelry collections. But the Christian faith is not the only source of interest. The designer must also be fascinated by the world of architecture, but of a particular type, out of the ordinary. Her Maison has recently launched a collection dedicated to Antoni Gaudì (1852-1926). It is worth remembering, for those who have never visited his works in Barcelona, that Gaudì was a Spanish architect, Catalan, considered an exponent of modernism, but with a completely eclectic interpretation. Seven of the buildings he designed in the Catalan city are Unesco heritage.

Jack Vartanian’s Gems

The glam jewels of the Brazilian designer Jack Vartanian

Brazil has long been one of the countries with the largest number of high-end jewelers, perhaps also thanks to the gem mines found in some areas. This is why a small group of designers has grown up capable of making the eyes of many women shine beyond the borders of Brazil. One of these is Jack Vartanian, who founded his brand in San Paolo in 1999. Born in Beirut into a family of Armenian origin (he has a brother, Ara Vartanian, also a jewelry designer, but with whom he has broken up relations for years), who traded in precious stones, he moved to Brazil when he was two years old. and has continued in the wake of tradition.

Gold and black rhodium are thus combined with black and white diamonds, emeralds, rubies and sapphires. If you look at the ears, necks and hands of celebrities like Kate Moss, Emma Stone and Miley Cyrus to Sofia Vergara and Jennifer Lopez, you might find a piece of jewelry created by Jack Vartanian. The long journeys alongside his father in search of the best stones were his university. Now he re-evaluates that period, the seventies and eighties, which are still a source of inspiration for his collections. In which pieces that reflect the spirit of those years often stand out, such as the ring and bracelet in gold and black leopard spots, to be exhibited perhaps in pairs. Or the tourmalines composed to form a “z”. Which is a letter from the word Brazil.

She is one of the few designers who handcraft the prototype of the jewels, ready for the subsequent finishing. You started your business in 2017 and work in Belo Horizonte, the Brazilian capital of the state of Minas Gerais, the second most populous area in Brazil and, above all, the one where there are numerous gem mines. Moreover, Kika Alvarenga is known to have graduated from Central Saint Martins University of Arts in London and, as she immediately appears from her jewels, she has a particular attention to semi-precious stones, such as tourmalines.

Together for Prasi

//

Put together the first letters of the surnames of Mariana Prates and that of Helena Sicupira and you will have the word Prasi. Not only. You will also have a young Brazilian jewelry company that blends the two souls of the great South American country: Helena and Mariana were born in Rio de Janeiro, but work in Sao Paulo. Another aspect unites them: they come from experiences not strictly linked to the world of jewelry, but architecture, art and design, which are the guidelines of the brand. The first collection, for example, was inspired by the airport atmospheres that marked the move from Rio to São Paulo. Their jewels are top of the range: 18K gold, refined design and precious stones, such as emeralds.

The birth of Prasi is quite recent: 2019 and the first collection was presented in a showroom in Paris. A move that probably served to make itself immediately appreciated by an international audience.

Yael Sonia’s movements

///

The geometrical and kinetic jewels by Brazilian Yael Sonia, who has known success in New York ♦

There are children who never are stop. But there are also jewels that are always on the move. Gold and precious stones that are always active are the elements that distinguish the work of a successful designer, quite original: Yael Sonia. Brasilian of Sao Paulo, in 2003 she opened a boutique in downtown New York, successfully. His strange, but very intuitive insight stems from his studies: the Parsons School of Design in New York, but also mathematics. The union of art and scientific calculus has allowed her to create jewels that play on volumes, but also on movement within them, with stones that can swing back and forth as they would be on rails. This kind of jewelery, called Spinning, has become a model also sought after by many Hollywood stars.

Yael Sonia has a style that has evolved over time, is changed from pieces which were small sculptures or, rather, miniature architectures, to a genre that combines artistic creation with portability. The fact of working in Brazil, then, has added the possibility of having a large variety of gems, often tailored to their jewelery. And commensurate with the difficult and refined workmanship of his pieces, especially bracelets and rings, are the prices: it ranges from a minimum of about $ 2,000 to tens of thousands.

The Transparency of Vianna

In Brazil, but also in the United States, the Vianna brand is associated with jewelry made up of large gems. It is no coincidence that the company was born in the Brazilian state where the largest number of mines are concentrated, around Belo Horizonte. The story began when Raymundo Nonato Vianna, a goldsmith craftsman, founded the family-run jewelry store. The company was then led by Raymundo, Ricardo and Romulo Vianna, who founded Vianna Brasil in 1984, based in Belo Horizonte. Success then prompted them to multiply their activities, particularly in the US, in Florida, where the company has opened an office, while the jewels are distributed throughout the country.

Judy Geib’s jewels are at the same time precious and light-hearted. A bit flower power, a little Coachella, a little ethnic, with a thought at work by Suzanne Belperron. But with gold that, sometimes, is used in its purest, 24-carat state. Or oxidized silver with almost baroque processing. In addition to emeralds, his favorite stone, she travels the world in search of paraiba tourmalines, rubies, sapphires, aquamarines, kunzites, pink and green tourmalines. However, her favorite destination for emeralds is Colombia. Not without some misadventure, she says.
