The Pink Promise diamond touches Christie’s record at Hong Kong ♦ ︎
There is pink diamond and pink diamond. While the 37-carat Raj Pink was not sold in Geneva, the smallest The Pink Promise, a 14.93 carat pink fancy vivid, was beaten by Christie’s for $ 31.9 million at Magnificent Jewels auction Hong Kong. The price is very close to the world record for a single carat of a pink diamond: $ 2.13 million (the record is almost 2.15 million per carat that a buyer has paid for a 5-carat diamond vivid diamond at a Christie’s auction in Hong Kong in December 2009).
The diamond has a curious history: it was bought by a stone merchant, Stephen Silver, in 2013 and cut again to highlight its color; it weighed 16.10 carats. The operation, very delicate, was successful. Silver (a name that marks a destiny) is already busy with particularly precious diamonds, such as The Cranberry, fancy red violet, The Million Dollar Pumpkin, a vivid orange, and a fancy blue vivid diamond. The Hong Kong auction, in addition to the highly regarded in Asia jade pieces, has also won jewelry from important Maison, such as Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels. Here are some pieces sold.
