The Isola dei Pescatori, in Lake Maggiore (Italy) is transformed into high jewelry with Mellerio dits Meller ♦ ︎
In 1613 the Mellerio family began to make jewels in Val Vigezzo, under the patronage of Maria de ‘Medici. Val Vigezzo is located in the north of Piedmont, and begins where Lake Maggiore ends. Now Mellerio dits Meller, the Maison that, moved to Paris in the eighteenth century has become the oldest jewelery in the world, with over 400 years of activity, pays tribute to its land of origin with the Isola dei Pescatori collection.
The Isola dei Pescatori is part of the Borromean Islands (once owned by the noble Borromeo family) which are, precisely, in Lake Maggiore and is so named because it was once populated by fishermen. Now of tourists.
The Mellerio family still loves going on vacation between the Baroque palaces of the Borromeo and the traditional stone houses, which inspired the collection designed by Laure-Isabelle Mellerio. Isola dei Pescatori is a collection of high jewelry that is based on two colors: the blue of the waves of the lake, rendered with the use of lapis lazuli, and the white of the foam of the waves, but also the silver scales of fish and the nets of fishermen, who turn into white gold and diamonds. There are nine pieces in all, including sautoir necklaces and rings. Lavinia Andorno
