African ethnic jewelry, as well as tribal sculpture, have fascinated many artists. So it is not strange to see a designer who lives and works in South Africa, using some of the features of craftworks, as the goal of catching lucky, that tie the jewel in an anti evil eye function.
But do not think to bijoux whichever. The Kristen Malan jewels are unique pieces that have won more than one award for design (for example, an International Design Excellence Award in Hong Kong). She, not surprisingly, she feels more to a painter than a designer. The results are often spectacular jewelry: big, dramatic, precious.
