Between roses and lotus flowers, architecture and ancient traditions: the gentle revolution by Vishal Kothari and his Vak ♦
Vishal Kothari comes from a family of three generations engaged in jewelery. But, really, he’s special. He founded Vak, keep in mind the name. It is Indian but he graduated from the Gemological Institute of America in New York. He loves Leonardo da Vinci, the island of Santorini, Jar and Wallace Chan. Not surprisingly, the small Maison who founded in Mumbai following the precept of only few pieces a year, no more than 50-70 jewelry made by thirty craftsmen.
He is inspired by the architecture, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, but also to the ancient Indian shapes. Often uses stones with the ancient cut that was used in Europe in the nineteenth century, the rose-cut. Or he chooses the shape of the lotus flower, a tradition in India. The jewels are unique pieces designed and crafted with care and dedication. “I love creating beautiful things. I don’t like the ordinary stuff. The clothes, for example: I’m always looking for something unique. So I think the same way when I create my jewelry”, he explained. This philosophy also showed with the participation at Baselworld 2017. Her jewelry are truly extraordinary. Lavinia Andorno
