Beatrice, a character who has become eternal thanks to Dante. The greatest Italian poet, was in love with her, unattainable (it seems that Beatrice was married to the rich Folco Portinari), and placed her in Paradise, where she guides Dante in his literary visit to the celestial spheres. Traditionally, perhaps also because of its ethereal distance, Beatrice has been portrayed by painters as a girl of white complexion, with delicate and pearly features.
