Striking combinations, gems and abstract compositions: this is Magnitude collection by Cartier of high jewelry ♦ ︎
The abstract forms of the stones seen closely seem works of painters struggling with the mystery of color and its possible combinations. On this ambiguity, Cartier’s Magnitude fine jewelry collection plays. The result is surprising. It is not the classic high jewelry where a princely stone is surrounded by other gems in a geometric composition, more or less innovative. Magnitude, instead, plays with the material itself, with the composition of colors, but also with the natural imperfection of the stones, almost like a gemmology lesson.
Precious stones and ornamental hard stones are integrated into jewels that look like sculptures to be exhibited at the Venice Art Biennale or Basel / Miami, you do. It is, of course, a collection far removed from the classic Cartier tradition, but no less interesting. Diamonds together with rutilated quartz, sapphires next to the opal, emeralds near rock crystal, pink diamonds with morganite and coral: this type of mixed marriage would have caused scandal only a few years ago. Now, instead, times have changed, along with people’s tastes and, of course, those of Cartier designers. The new era is characterized by fluidity, even for gems. Federico Graglia
