Andererseits entschloss sich Mendoza nach einem Journalismus-Studium in Bogota, die Goldschmiedekunst nicht nur in ihrem Land, sondern auch in Peru bei lokalen Handwerkern zu erlernen und sich sp\u00e4ter in den USA dem Zeichnen und der Bildhauerei zu widmen.
