Gone With the Wind

The wind tousles jewelry by Irish Love & Robots. And you can create them yourself.
The technology ways pass through the world of jewelry. From time the technique of 3D printing is used to realize also in metal jewelry (the first were only plastic). And this possibility opens unexpected doors. The Irish studio Love & Robots, for example, has designed jewelery that reproduce the movement of wind in any city, on any given day. The collection is called Windswept. The 3D representation of the air flow is transformed into a metal pendant, printed in 3D, as if it were a rippled fabric from the wind, but then frozen in time. But how do you get a gem with the wind of the day when you were born, or of the girlfriend’s birthday, or of the birth of a child? First, the date must be within the last 50 years. Based on historical weather data for the chosen day, a modeling software reproduces weather conditions, including wind, about the chosen day. Then you create a virtual object and pressing the pause button you get the picture of the jewel, then that is made in 3D. This step can follow two ways: the first method is an additive manufacturing technique, and means that the piece is printed directly in gold or silver. Alternatively, the pieces may be printed in wax, which is then used to create a mold for metal casting.
The pendants can be ordered in 14-carat gold, silver, and yellow or rosé, and then finished by hand. Price: from 185 to 365 Euros. Rudy Serrawindswept-jewellery-love-robots_dezeen_sq
